3 Ways to Make New Friends When You Move

The older we get, the harder it feels to make new friends — especially when you move. Even if it’s just a move within the same zip code, meeting and making friends with neighbors can be hard. Here are three ways to help you get started:

1. Stick to activities you enjoy. This sounds like a no brainer, but it’s at these places you’ll find people who like the same things as you. Whether it’s a fitness class, workshop or volunteering, be on the lookout for others in those environments to connect with.

2. Say YES. Commit to saying yes (within reason!) to any invite you get for an amount of time. Be intentional! Sometimes the best things happen when we get out of our comfort zone so say yes to things we might normally brush off.

3. Cultivate. So you’ve met some new friends and neighbors … but cultivating the friendship is just as important as meeting them. Ask them to go to coffee, invite them to a fun local activity.

Friendships take time to grow but the effort is worth the reward.
