“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland.” – Isaiah 43:19
As I stepped into the grocery store, I was greeted by a breathtaking display of tulips. Living in Germany has its perks, especially the abundance of fresh flowers year-round. However, there’s something truly magical about tulip season, which graces us with its beauty in March and April.
My heart danced with joy as I carefully selected bunches of vibrant colors to adorn my dinner table. At that moment, as I stood gazing at the tulips, I felt a stirring within me – a whisper of anticipation for something new.
It was as if God Himself was orchestrating a new season of growth and transformation in my life, and I couldn’t help but embrace it with eager anticipation.
The winter months had been harshly cold and dim. Every morning greeted me with darkness outside, and by the time I journeyed home from the office each afternoon, the sun had already vanished from sight.
Perhaps, like me, you’ve experienced moments where your faith feels feeble, and the joy prescribed by God seems elusive. Know that you’re not alone in this sentiment. However, in the midst of life’s trials, we can cultivate and fortify our faith, finding solace and delight in God’s presence through incremental steps each day as we seek what new thing God is doing in our lives.
Discovering joy during adversity is not merely aspirational; it’s a biblical truth. Despite the challenges we face, Scripture reassures us that joy can be found in the very presence of God. In Him, we discover a refuge, a safe harbor, regardless of the storms raging around us. Let’s embrace this joy, knowing that God perpetually accompanies us, guiding and upholding us through every twist and turn of life’s journey. Through His boundless love and unmerited grace, we can unearth joy in any circumstance.
As I internalized these principles and allowed them to shape my perspective, a profound sense of peace enveloped me. Granted, maintaining joy in times of hardship, displaying patience in affliction, and remaining steadfast in prayer isn’t always effortless. Yet, as we embody these virtues, our lives undergo a transformative metamorphosis.
In times of adversity, nurturing our faith becomes imperative. Trusting in God doesn’t immunize us from life’s tribulations; instead, it anchors us in the midst of the tempest. Regardless of the trials we encounter, let’s not allow our faith to falter. Instead, let’s turn to God, imploring His divine assistance.
Here are five things we can do to build faith and develop positive habits as we welcome this new season:
Dedicate time each day to commune with God through prayer, meditation, and reading Scripture. Establishing a routine of spending quality time with God strengthens our connection with Him and reinforces our faith. Pay attention to any impressions or insights that come to you during these times of communion with God.
Engage in acts of service within your community or church. Serving others not only reflects God’s love and compassion but also deepens our understanding of His teachings and strengthens our faith. You may notice opportunities presenting themselves unexpectedly or doors opening where there were previously only walls. These opportunities may align with your passions, talents, or long-term goals in a way that feels divinely orchestrated.
Surround yourself with like-minded individuals by joining a faith-based community or small group. Participating in discussions, sharing experiences, and supporting one another fosters a sense of belonging and strengthens our faith through communal worship and fellowship. Be open to unexpected encounters or conversations with people who offer wisdom, insight, or encouragement that speaks directly to your situation. These encounters may serve as divine nudges or confirmations from God.
Cultivate a habit of gratitude by reflecting on God’s blessings and expressing thankfulness daily. Gratitude shifts our focus from challenges to blessings, nurturing a positive outlook and deepening our faith in God’s providence.
Pursue opportunities for spiritual growth, such as attending seminars, workshops, or retreats focused on deepening your faith. Engaging in ongoing learning and self-reflection empowers us to overcome doubts and challenges, leading to a deeper, more resilient faith.
If doubts assail your trust in God, recall His unwavering faithfulness. He loves you unconditionally and desires to see you flourishing. Refuse to relinquish your faith; instead, persevere in seeking God and His purpose for your life.
Trusting in God isn’t merely incidental; it’s the cornerstone of a fulfilling life devoted to Him. Recognizing when God is ushering in something new in your life is a profoundly personal and spiritual experience.
Remember that discerning God’s work in your life requires patience, prayer, and an open heart. Trust in His timing and His plans, knowing that He is always faithful to lead you into the new and abundant life He has prepared for you.
