Prayer is something that I make a priority every single day. Spending time in conversation with our Heavenly Father is how I start and end my day, what I do when I need to de-stress, and how I express my thankfulness when things are going my way. Prayer has become an integral part of my life and a testament of my faith. We are told to “rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18).
There are many who only turn to prayer when the going gets tough and they are faced with a situation that clearly needs divine intervention. Though there is nothing in this world that is bigger than our God, He wants us to come to Him with all of our worries and concerns, not only those that we can’t work through on our own. And there have been scientific studies that show that those who pray or are prayed for really do have better outcomes when faced with illnesses.
Mental and Emotional Healing through Prayer
Our mental health is directly impacted by our faith and prayer. How often do you find yourself anxious or worried, stressed or upset by a situation that feels as if it is out of your control? In Philippians 4:6-7, we are told, “do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” That relief that we so instantly feel when we turn our worries over to Him will heal us mentally and emotionally.
Physical Healing through Prayer
Much of our physical healing that is found through prayer correlates right back to our mental health. When your body is stressed, it can cause inflammation, which is a huge contributor to any number of physical health issues. By reducing that stress by casting your cares upon The Father, that inflammation will be reduced naturally. The same goes for our gut health, which can affect our immune system, bacterial balance, and more. When we pray and release that worry and anxiety, our gut is better able to function and our physical health can improve.
The more you embrace your relationship with God through prayer and truly turn your worries over to him, the more you will see how you can find healing through prayer. Make time today to practice your faith and lay your physical and emotional burdens at His feet, accepting your healing.
