The heat of the summer is past and a fresh energy surges through the air. Fall is here, the green of the land turning to brilliant oranges and reds and yellows.
The season holds a special place in my heart as it was on a crisp fall day that I came face to face with God. I could avoid Him no longer. The time of accounting had arrived and I was found wanting.
Wanting the Lord. Needing His righteousness, His cleansing presence, His justice that rights all wrongs within my soul. My self-absorbed ways were swallowed up in His brilliance and love — the love that drives out all fear, covers all sins.
I was caught — and captured up into the arms of a loving Father who wanted only good for my life.
The encounter was undeniable. The effect was irreversible. I had seen God and the realization of how deeply He knew me and loved me despite my selfish petty ways was intense.
I made a decision that day to follow and I have Never. Turned. Back.
We know when God is calling. Can you hear Him calling now? Drawing you, wooing you, even confronting you with His goodness and His way. His presence will fill a dearth in your soul you hardly knew existed, but it was there all the time, gnawing at you, creating a dissatisfaction with life as it is, with life without Him.
The response is simple and it can be quick. A headlong falling, a heartfelt rushing. A coming home to the One who holds the stars, and your life, in His nail-scarred hands.
Come home, O sinner, come home. It’s that simple.
“The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” (2 Peter 3:9, NIV)
